Our loons are gone. I love the painterly look of the water.
....peter:): ours were likely gone before yours were Michael... the reflections are our autumn colours....petersmile
Just on the edge of darkness... Lovely shot!
....peter:): nice autumn tones at that time of day Elizabeth... thank you....petersmile

Never a Loon, Peter...just a floating maple leaf... smile
....peter:): it would have to be a very big maple leaf Ray... it was close to the shore on the other side of your bay....petersmile
Jolie eau frissonnante.
....peter:): merci Martine... bise....peter/pierresmile

It is rare to see a Diver here, Peter - there is great excitement when one visits a local reservoir in the winter
....peter:): there are very many loons up here Lisl... i have taken pictures of up to 100 of them landing in our bay the day after the ice is off the lake... and they gather here before flying south in the fall...

they are only here for a day or two then most of them move off to other lakes around...
we will have about 10 to 15 pairs stay and nest on Remi Lake... they are very territorial so only one pair of loons will stay in a bay....petersmile

Out there on his own it seems
....peter:): i am sure that its mate is not too far away... this was taken in Autumn Chris... by now their two chicks would be almost full grown and able to fly south for the winter....petersmile
Do you also hear them throughout the day/night, Peter? Wouldn't that be wonderful.
....peter:): we hear them both night and day Ginnie... we sleep with our bedroom balcony door open and listen to their enchanting calls to each other....petersmile
A lone Loon
....peter:): his mate wouldn't be that far away Bill... we can hear them calling to each other from about a mile apart some times....petersmile
A loon all alone.
....peter:): his or her mate wouldn't be that far away Chad... they keep in touch with their beautiful calls....petersmile
Oh, you're lucky to get to see them, peter. I bet you wanted it for the national bird.
....peter:): we get to see a lot of them Mary... there are about 15 pairs that nest in individual bays around the lake... the Loon is the official Bird of Ontario....petersmile

This is a fascinating image, almost like an impressionistic painting! I have to look in my dictionary what the word 'Loon' means.
....peter:): thank you very much Philine... the loons are divers and have the most enchanting song when they call each other day or night:
click on the link below and you will learn all about the loons.. there is even a recording of their beautiful call on the page:

....petersmile
a calming scene. i like how the top half has smooth darkness and the lower part has all the ripples across the image.
....peter:): the calm water at the to is the lee side of the land Ayush... some of the ripples is from the breeze and others were from the Loon (a diver) coming up to the surface and diving back again....petersmile
so small against the big lake...
....peter:): it was about a half mile away Larry....petersmile
