Mackerel Skies 1/2

the thing about having cloud formations in the shape of the rids of a mackerel is that a storm is about to follow...
i t took five hours for lighting storm to arrive... and it carried on throughout the night...

It's always such a lovely pattern to see in the sky, Peter!
....peter:): they do make a lovely pattern in the sky Elizabeth... but rain will follow it within 5 or 6 hours... Bill even provided a link to an article on it....petersmile

Quel joli ciel, j'aime beaucoup la forme des nuages.
....peter:): Un ciel de maquereau laisse toujours un joli motif Martine ... mais la pluie la suit toujours dans environ 5 ou 6 heures ...bise....peter/pierresmile

Now you have added meteorology to your Arsenal of talents Peter.
....peter:): if you spend any time on the water Chad... you learn all about these things... this one i leaned from an old sailor in Nova Scotia in 1999....petersmile
....peter:): i like it very much Bill... thanks for finding it... it proves my point... i shared your link with it to several of the commentators today....petersmile
We are waiting for some rain so saw mackerel skies yesterday.
....peter:): if you had a makerak sky yesterday Mary you will get rain today... it usually takes from 6 to8hours to get there....petersmile

BTW Bill share a link with me about it:

....
My grandma used to predict rains based on cloud formations... Although, she only predicted a few minutes before the rains started... smile

Those formations are lovely, Peter... And did you notice the fleeing (pun intended) bird? grin
....peter:): the bird is a loon Sudipto... they are divers that reside on our lake in summer...
i learned this from an old sailor in 1999...a mackerel sky does mean that there will be rain ind 5 to 6 hours... Bill even found a link to prove it:
