photoblog image Sequence of Calving of Hubbard Glacier

Sequence of Calving of Hubbard Glacier

The calving sequence in this collage took 0.12 seconds... it starts at the top left and runs counter clockwise to where the mass of ice splashes water above the three stories at the snout of the glacier... followed by a cracking sound louder than thunder right above your head.

Ice calving, also known as glacier calving or iceberg calving, is the breaking of ice chunks from the edge of a glacier.

Good timing on the ship captains part to be there for this.

I have watched it so often in nature shows. You have seen it in the flesh.
