Pont du Gard Spans the River Gardon in Le Provence

It once was part of a Roman-built aqueduct that transported water from its source in Uzès to the Roman city of Nîmes.

Each boulder weighed up to six tons and was individually hoisted then fixed without mortar.

The 50m high arched bridge is the tallest Roman aqueduct-bridge in France and is a true feast of Roman engineering!

What an amazing structure and so well photographed Peter, the light helps pick out the stone work. What an achievement for the Romans.
C'est un pont magnifique que tu as su bien mettre en valeur. Le premier cadrage en diagonale est mon préféré. Bisous pour vous 3
It is truly remarkable isn't it!
Another one of those structures where one wonders how they managed to build it without the equipment we have these days.
An awe inspiring example of Roman construction
They were genius engineers...
I would LOVE to see this bridge one day, Peter!
