....peter:): a big thank you Elizabeth....petersmile

How close in were you able to get, Peter?
....peter:): we were a mile off shore Lisl... icebergs often break off that ate about 6 times thicker than the snout of the glacier....petersmile

Amazing, but now it looks almost threatening Peter.
....peter:): it is threatening at certain times of the year there can be icebergs breaking off below the surface of the snout... we stayed a mile off shore from the glacier....petersmile

Looks as if it could be dangerous..
....peter:): they look like pretty sharp teeth Chris... there is calving of the ice every few minutes... we stayed a mile off shore from the glacier....petersmile
This makes me completely rethink what glaciers look like. Great photo. Were you really that close or was it all done with the magic of a powerful zoom lens?
....peter:): we were a mile off shore Sheila... i used a macro lens set to wide open for this shot....petersmile
What colours Peter.I wonder how many years that goes back?
....peter:): beautiful blues Frank... i'm sure that it goes back to the ice age... it is 122 kl long and moves:
wikipedia says... "It takes about 400 years for ice to traverse the length of the glacier, meaning that the ice at the foot of the glacier is about 400 years old."

C'est magnifique
....peter:): d'accord JP!
I guess there is a lot more of this under the water.
....peter:): think of an iceberg Brian... that is how much is below the water line... the snout is about three stories high....petersmile
That really is quite something Peter.
....peter:): it is a natural wonder Bill... and i goot to see it up close eh....petersmile
