  • 24 May 2011, 00:12 good, Peter!

As a Lad I lived beside a rail shunting yard...loved watching the steam locos at work.
....peter:): Thanks Ray....i lived beside a railway yard until i moved out to at the age of 21....we had taken over my Grandfather's house when he retired....he had been the General Yardmaster for CP .....i went to sleep to the sound of the steam engines until they brought in the diesels in about 1955...they just didn't sing the same songsgrin....petersmile
That looks like some length of train, Peter. Great "lead in" perspective.
....peter:): It was well over a mile long Graeme with more cars behind me....i was just lucky to have the perfect spot to catch this curve....petersmile

....peter:): Thanks for the 'wow' Sherri....but i would rather take that ride in the Vista Car of their passenger train instead of that freight train lolsmile....petersmile

Well you've impressed this railway enthusiast Peter
....peter:): I am glad that i could be of service Chris....petersmile
These huge long freight trains never fail to impress. In an old book I have are pictures of the American Big boy locomotives. You only realise how big they were when you realise that the little dots next to them are the drivers!
....peter:): I agree with you Bill....this one had two diesel engines (bigger than the ones that you see on the flatlands) and there were many more cars behind the end of the bend you can just catch the back end of the second diesel....petersmile

I love travelling by train - and this looks like the place to be smile

A long train by the way....Like the way it leads my eyes in to the landscape
....peter:): This would be the best place that i know of to take a train ride Aksel....the passenger trains have some Vista cars with glass domes so that you can see the tops of the mountains.

Thank you for your comment on how it leads you into the landscape....petersmile

Great shot. That's a looong train in a beautiful landscape.
Greetings, Fokkio.
....peter:): Thank you very much was a perfect place to capture the length of the train along the river and the mountains beyond.
This is quite a shot! The wide curve of the train is of great interest and the background mountains are beautiful.
....peter:): Thank you Mary....this is a great compliment coming from one of the best in the fieldgrin....petersmile
And i am not talking about all of the fields that you photograph

This is a big boy!
Never-ending freight containers.
I should get a wide angel before I go there. wink
....peter:): Thank you very much LC.
There were even more cars behind me in this shot.
All of the shots in the mountains were taken with a Canon SureShot S2 IS.
I could have used a wide angle lens on that trip.
Bring yours.....when you come.
My next four shots are all panoramas.....using up to five panelssmile

They seem to go on for ever from what I've seen waiting at the railroad crossing in Banff. . It's a fine composition with the curve of the track and that of the river leading into the distance.
....peter:): Thank you very much Alan...i guess you realize just how many cars these great engines can pull up a mountain.
Your comment is a great compliment....thanks again....petersmile
I am still waiting for you to identify the three peaks from a few days ago....we were approaching the Columbia Icefields from the South.....take your best guess won't yougrin
That's the biggest train Ive ever seen Peter and what wonderful terrain it passes through too.
....peter:): It's the biggest train that you have ever seen because there isn't a long enough track to hold it in the UK lol....thank you very much for your fine comment is a magnificent place to see and to photograph....petersmile
